BUSINESS INSIDER
ROLE
Art Direction, Team Leadership
As the Senior Managing Producer of Motion Design at Business Insider, I lead a team of motion designers in creating all animated content for our Emmy award-winning YouTube channel, which reaches over 10 million subscribers.
I work alongside producers and designers from the script stage, collaborating on storyboards, solving clarity issues, overseeing artistic direction, and maintaining brand consistency throughout the creative process.
Our team is regularly challenged to translate complex ideas into clear, engaging animations that connect with our viewers on a human level. To foster a warm yet professional editorial tone, we’ve developed a pseudo-stop motion style that’s inspired by paper cutouts.
For our video, Why Subscriptions Make Everything More Expensive, I developed a new workflow for image prep, integrating AI to isolate elements of an photo so that they can be recomposited as animation, as seen with the milk bottles and metal crate, which were originally a single static image. This new workflow replaced laborious photoshopping, and saves hours on each image asset.
For this graph, we wanted to emulate an Adobe interface, and transition between graph scales as if it were scaled with an Illustrator tool.
Whenever possible, we try to integrate visual motifs of the video’s subject matter into graphs and charts, to keep them light, focused, and engaging.
We’ve been spearheading the creation of reporter hosted vertical videos adapted to social channels. These distill a 30 minute video into a single question or idea to explore, to draw viewers to the full video.
